Today was our first chance to see our baby!
Steve took the day off and I did too so that we could get “baby things” done. I had been counting down to this day pretty much since we found out we were expecting. I’m 12 weeks along and they consider this an early screening. At this point I just want to make sure there is definitely someone in there! lol Since I’ve only had one week of semi queasy-ness and few other symptoms it’s still sometimes hard to realize it’s real, as much as I want it to be.
We took the morning to check out both birthing centers… we think they are both great but have decided to go with Labor of Love. We just really like the warm, homey feeling there and someday I’m interested in doing a home birth so it’s best to get settled in with a place that will help us with that in the future.
Then we went to our appointment!
They settled us in and as soon as the wand was put on my stomach there was baby! Instantly and perfect… very still,
as if sleeping the technician got all of their good measurements while we watched. I was afraid to ask but was glad when Steve did. He asked if everything was ok… the woman said everything looked perfect. After seeing the heart and everything I commented that the baby seemed very still. At that moment the legs just began to kick and the baby went crazy, kicking and flipping… I think the bit of sweet tea I had before we arrived kicked in and baby woke up! It was amazing to watch.
I teared up while watching and held my breath when Steve asked if everything looked good. When we came out Steve was taking pictures of the sonogram images and emailing them to the new grandparents. We couldn’t wait to show them.
We went in for the regular appointment. The doctor tried to let us hear the heartbeat… problem was baby was most definitely awake at that point! We heard kicking and flipping and all sorts of things but we’d only get a moment or two of heartbeat before the baby would take off again. Even the doctor was laughing at our little show. I was laughing which only made the baby go more. Steve joked that I needed to control my child, which of course made more giggles. At least we know the baby is healthy and active 🙂
Afterwards we went and wandered around some baby stores a bit just looking… it was an amazing day!
