Our First Peek at Baby

Today was our first chance to see our baby!

Steve took the day off and I did too so that we could get “baby things” done.  I had been counting down to this day pretty much since we found out we were expecting. I’m 12 weeks along and they consider this an early screening. At this point I just want to make sure there is definitely someone in there! lol Since I’ve only had one week of semi queasy-ness and few other symptoms it’s still sometimes hard to realize it’s real, as much as I want it to be.

We took the morning to check out both birthing centers… we think they are both great but have decided to go with Labor of Love. We just really like the warm, homey feeling there and someday I’m interested in doing a home birth so it’s best to get settled in with a place that will help us with that in the future.

Then we went to our appointment!

They settled us in and as soon as the wand was put on my stomach there was baby! Instantly and perfect… very still,

Baby at 12 weeks

as if sleeping the technician got all of their good measurements while we watched. I was afraid to ask but was glad when Steve did. He asked if everything was ok… the woman said everything looked perfect. After seeing the heart and everything I commented that the baby seemed very still. At that moment the legs just began to kick and the baby went crazy, kicking and flipping… I think the bit of sweet tea I had before we arrived kicked in and baby woke up! It was amazing to watch.

I teared up while watching and held my breath when Steve asked if everything looked good. When we came out Steve was taking pictures of the sonogram images and emailing them to the new grandparents. We couldn’t wait to show them.

We went in for the regular appointment. The doctor tried to let us hear the heartbeat… problem was baby was most definitely awake at that point! We heard kicking and flipping and all sorts of things but we’d only get a moment or two of heartbeat before the baby would take off again. Even the doctor was laughing at our little show. I was laughing which only made the baby go more. Steve joked that I needed to control my child, which of course made more giggles.  At least we know the baby is healthy and active 🙂

Afterwards we went and wandered around some baby stores a bit just looking… it was an amazing day!

The Twin Factor

Let me preface this by saying I do not think we are having twins…. there is no real reason to believe we are. There are twins in Steve’s family and one case of twins in mine but there is nothing right now to indicate that we are having twins. I’m not extra sick, or showing early, or gaining weight early as most of the sites say indicate twins….

BUT everyone likes to guess twins because of the strange psychic story I have.

When I was 16 I was at a party that was very fancy. A psychic had been hired to tell fortunes to the party guests. I didn’t go up to her but she came up to me while I was sititng on the couch and gave me all sorts of information. She said all sorts of things that were confirmed soon after but she also said I’d be happily married someday and that I’d have twin boys and a girl.

Years later when I was about 22 Lynne decided she wanted to go to a psychic because she’d just gotten married. The psychic was very good. She told Lynne that she should expect children soon… Lynne said “someday.”

The woman said, “A lot sooner than that.”

It turns out Lynne was already pregnant and didn’t know it.

That psychic also told me that I was eventually going to have this miraculous, wonderful husban who she couldn’t stop gushing over (which now I understand why) and that we would have twin boys and a girl.

Just about five years ago I went with Lynne and Melissa to another psychic. She also said that Iwas having twin boys and a girl someday. I asked if she was sure since there were not twins in my family. She said they were either twins or were both very close to one another and were very close.

So the jokes began that I would have twins.

Just last year I took a silly little quiz on Facebook…. everyone else was told one child or two. I was told very specifically twin boys and a girl.

So let the guessing begin!
